How are you going to use WordPress or get someone to help you build your web site so you can get started (or update) your internet presence and become the “rock star” you truly are?

There’s just one thing that isn’t covered here, & unfortunately it’s the one thing I really need to know – how do you set up a download page to let people get an information product they’ve just paid for WITHOUT the download page showing up in the site menu and the search engines?
I have a WordPress site and am in the process of designing several more, but the only way I’ve so far been able to give people access to the digital products they’ve just bought is by taking them AWAY from my WordPress site and sending them to an html page in a different directory!
I don’t much mind the nuisance of setting pages up that way, but I hate the fact that I can’t keep the design the same – I think having a different look for the download page gives a very amateurish and unconvincing impression.
Much as I love WordPress, the whole point of my sites is to sell digital downloads, and so far neither I nor the people I’ve asked for help have been able to achieve this.
Awesome question Aislinn!
I have a couple of suggestions for you…first, there is a no-follow or no-index code you can use in WordPress that will keep the search engines from grabbing your product delivery pages and showing them to the world.
But the very best solution I know is to use the Wishlist Member plug-in to protect the content that you sell. This can be used as a membership site creator as well, but you can simply use it to protect page content. It’s quite versatile and in fact we’re using it for our upgrade programs.
You can learn more here:

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
All the best,
Jeff
Thanks, Jeff – have asked lots of “experts” the same question, & this is the first constructive suggestion I’ve received!
I’m on my way to check it out right now.
Thanks again.
Have now checked it out, and it looks like it would do exactly what I want – but given my other business expenses, $297 to be able to use it on more than one site won’t at present fit the budget.
It may very well be a good price for its intended purpose (to create and manage membership sites – not a thing I want to do), but to pay all that for just one aspect of its performance doesn’t make sound economic sense to me right now.
My present work-around may not be very elegant, but it gets the job done, and I think I’ll stick with it for now.
Thanks for your suggestion, anyway.
Aislinn,
You might want to try playing with it on one site (I think that’s only $97) and see how you like it. Wishlist also does promotions and specials from time to time so you might get lucky (like we did) and be able grab extra licenses for a lesser rate.
You might also try a Google search for WordPress plug-ins for no-follow/no-index.
Let us know how it works out for you.
Jeff
Thanks for making the website idea so less intimidating.
Christina gave a great presentation of a subject that could have been “geeky”. Most of us are not web masters of any sort, so she gave us some context and then leads us to do it, either on our own or with help. Thanks for adding a dose of confidence!
Beverly is no longer a lone voice. I agree with this part of her comment. “There was too much time spent banging on about how things used to be (who cares?) and the awesome ability of wordpress rather than showing people how to use it.”
For all of the other classes I took pages of notes. Generally I have taken 2.5-3 hrs. to listen as I have had the presentation on pause so much. This one I took me just over 1 hr to complete.
My level of tech is far below where this was aimed. But then my guess is you have few 70 year old students. So I am hoping that it was at about the level it needed to be.
The one thing that is clear for me is that when I figure out what I will do with my vision I will find someone who can help me with wordpress.org
Melanie Benson Strick’s Presentation tells me that the video is not available.
Love Prem
Hi Prem,
Thank you for your input. We are at a point in VBU where the technological skill level (read: computer skills) of the individual will play into the intended outcomes.
However, when you listen to Melanie’s program, you will find that there are always ways (at any age or skill level) to bring in someone who can do the work; someone who LOVES to do that work. Don’t let technology slow you down or stall you. You can find someone who loves to do the things you don’t enjoy.
As I mentioned in an earlier comment, this is a great place to find such people.
I commend you for taking these big steps (at 70 years or any other age) in your life and look forward to providing with what you need to move forward.
Regarding Melanie’s program, it appears to be to be available. We had a short period (only a matter of minutes) yesterday when the videos were down but other than that, it’s been smooth sailing all week. Please try to refresh your page and see if that fixes the problem. If not, try closing the page and going back to open it again from the Week 5 menu. That should take care of it.
All the best,
Jeff
I reopened and it worked. Thanks
Love
Thank you so much for these classes. I have learned much. I appreciate what Christina taught and it has given me some ideas of what further I can use WordPress for . Thank you again.
I’ve been working on website using weebly.com. Its very easy and is looking great so far. After reading this, I am considering changing to WordPress; but, am not sure if it is worth the energy if I’m already pleased with my Weebly site. Does anybody know any pros and cons to weebly?
I’m sorry I found this really irritating and was very disappointed. It was free to listen so I shouldn’t complain but it was not a particularly productive use of my time. Information was not presented in a logical order and quite often it felt as if the two of you were having your own private conversation. An hour isn’t long, but really information should be presented in a more sequential way than it was. As a trainer myself, It didn’t sound as if it had been planned unless the interjections were a method of holding a conversation. There was too much time spent banging on about how things used to be (who cares?) and the awesome ability of wordpress rather than showing people how to use it. Apologies for sounding so negative – but I really did think it was poor (even though I am probably a lone voice)
Hi Beverley,
Lone voice or not, your opinions are always welcome here.
This was a particularly challenging topic to try to tackle in a 1-hour class because there are SO many directions we could go with the conversation.
Sorry if it wasn’t up to your expectations…24 classes…plus the prelaunch series…we’re doing our best to please the broadest range of conscious entrepreneur possible…yet, please everyone…I wouldn’t even dream of trying.
Thanks for your comments.
Jeff
video stopped running a third of the way through.
Hi Harrison,
Usually if the video stalls, it’s because it is playing faster than it’s streaming (or downloading). You can just hit pause and wait for a few minutes for the streaming to catch up.
I’ve made a short video here answering the main video related questions.

I enjoyed learning about wordpress, however I didn’t see anything for the handouts. Thanks
Those handouts are available for those who purchase the program.
They will be up shortly on the product page.
